Context:
The Lonely Whale finds his voice is a children’s book that I conceptualised, wrote, and illustrated as a self-led creative project. Inspired by the true story of 52 Hertz, a whale with a unique call frequency that went unheard by others, I adapted this concept into a heartfelt narrative. The book tells the story of a whale with a quiet, distinct voice who feels different and disconnected from the other sea life, exploring themes of individuality, empathy, and the universal longing for connection.
Combining my skills in storytelling and design, I illustrated the book using hand-drawn techniques on Procreate and vector enhancements in Adobe Illustrator, creating vibrant and emotive visuals that bring the underwater world to life. My design background informed every creative decision, from the character design of the whale to the layout of pages, ensuring a visually captivating and cohesive experience for readers.
This project was entirely self-driven, with no additional stakeholders, allowing me to fully own the creative and production process. From initial concept to final illustrations, I poured my creativity into crafting a story that not only entertains but also inspires readers to embrace their differences and seek meaningful connections. The Lonely Whale finds his voice is a project I’m incredibly proud of, showcasing my ability to transform an inspiring idea into a polished, emotionally resonant work.
